Ms. Buckingham,
In an email to the school district you asked how many of our teachers belong to the union. Our records show that 6,673 of our teachers belong to the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association.
I believe you already received an answer to your other question. If you have any other questions, please send me an email and I'll try to help.

Mr. Hegarty,
Thank you very much for that information. I am looking into all of the Teachers Union's the the HCTA is "affiliated" with according to their web site. It is written in very small print that the Hillsborough CTA is Affiliated with FEA, NEA, AFT, AFL-CIO. I am posting this information in my blog, on Facebook & Twitter. I wonder how many parents in Hillsborough County would be comfortable knowing the things that these various unions support (one example below). I now know why each of my grandchildren, again, at 3 different Hillsborough County elementary schools, during the election came home singing Obama's praises. Not one told me of John McCain's heroic actions. I wrote to the School board at the time & received a satisfactory response.
Again, I will bring this up to you & hopefully you will pass it on. When I went to school I NEVER knew my teachers political affiliations & I believe this is how it should still be. Pres. Obama should be respected as he is our President, but he is not our Saviour & this kind of reverence does NOT belong in our schools.
Once I have concluded my investigations into these unions and the HCTA, I will appear at a school board meeting to ask my questions.
Is it too much to ask that teachers just teach these children how to read & write and do arithmetic, oh and how about the true history of America? I realize that morals are not being taught in homes like they used to be, but it is NOT the teacher's union's job to do this either. Maybe the Unions should teach themselves some ethics.
As I said, I appreciate your help. I am still wondering which curriculum is being taught at the schools, as I would like to take a deeper look into that too.
Sincerely - Carol Buckingham
